Gamecocks are BACK

Make no mistake, last year was a disaster.

Make no mistake, this is not last year.

The 2016 Gamecock baseball team has the mental makeup of what Gamecock fans have grown accustom to. Yes there are parts that need to improve, but a 10-2 SEC start is remarkable, especially with who they’ve played.

There are so many contributors to this team and so many have stepped up throughout the year. But the emergence of Josh Reagan may be the most important as well as the biggest surprise. On Sunday against a VERY scrappy Tennessee team, he had the bases loaded, no outs, and a 1 run lead.  NO PROBLEM. A weak groundout, K, and an infield pop up and the Gamecocks had their 3rd SEC sweep. A 10-2 conference record will allow for a bad weekend, or even 2 down the road.

USC has now found itself atop of the best conference in baseball and it’s not a fluke. This team is tough, confident, a little nutty, and knows they are never out of it.  A national seed is absolutely a possibility, but with Florida, Texas A&M, and Kentucky coming up in a few weeks, the road is still brutal. But for the first time in a while, others are looking at their schedule and saying “UGH, we have Carolina.” And yes Dabo, that would be the Carolina Gamecocks.
