The Spartanburg Vikings defeated Laurens 35-17 in Round 2 of the 5A Playoffs to advance to the Quarterfinals. Connor Shugart had 2 INTs including a pick 6 and Damyjai Foster added 2 TDs and a INT to lead the Vikings to their 2nd straight playoff victory.
Romain Kelly had 6 catches for 124 yards and a TD including a 73 yard reception for the first score of the game for Spartanburg. The Vikings will host the Dorman Cavaliers in the Quarterfinals this Friday night.
Below are my thoughts on the 2nd round win:
- The Vikings had a 13 penalties for 155 yards. It was a very sloppy night with way too many personal foul calls. The Vikings have to clean that up for next week.
- Once again, the Viking defense was incredible in the 2nd half. Spartanburg shut out Laurens in the 2nd half. Four forced turnovers and multiple sacks by the Vikings defense led Spartanburg to another playoff win.
- Once again the Vikings’ offensive weapons came up big when called upon. Opposing defenses continue to struggle on where to focus their attention.
- Satorian Mobley blew up a few plays in the 4th quarter and had 2 huge sacks.
- William Yex had another solid night and no INTs once again.
- Connor Shugart, and Damyjai Foster had special nights. Romain Kelly was outstanding in the first half.
- Next week against Dorman is gonna be an amazing atmosphere. I can’t wait.
