By Jed Blackwell/The Spartanburg Sports Report

The Spartanburg tennis team got a tough win from Ashe Ray at No. 5 singles to help clinch a second straight national championship at the DecoTurf High School tennis team championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. this weekend.

Raye won his match 6-3, 7-6 to pace the Vikings to a 4-3 win over Northview (Ga.) in the championship match.

The freshman also clinched the title-winning point for the Vikings a year ago.

Spartanburg was the No. 1 seed in the tournament and participated in the Boys A bracket. They advanced to the final with a 6-1 win against Rock Bridge (Ill.) in the semifinals.

Chambers Easterling, Spencer Brown, Omar Williams and Ray took victories at No. 2 singles through No. 5 singles to tally the four points that won the title.
