Baseball: Area High School Playoffs Roundup

By Jed Blackwell/The Spartanburg Sports Report

Boiling Springs 9, Clover 0

The Bulldogs started the playoffs on the right foot, pounding out 12 hits and getting a masterful performance on the mound from Justin Brasher.

Brasher came within one out of a no-hitter, keeping the Eagles out of the scorebook for six and two-thirds innings. A double to left field on the last pitch of the game cost him the honor, but a runner who walked earlier in the seventh was cut down at the plate to end the game.

Boiling Springs tallied a run in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk scored Adam Pucetas, then put up eight more before the fifth inning ended.

The Bulldogs will host Laurens on Thursday night.

Chapman 16, Chester 1

Chapman jumped all over Chester from the beginning, building a 5-1 lead going into the home half of the third.

That’s when the Panthers blew it open.

Chapman scored 9 runs in the frame to take a 14-1 lead and cruised to a four-inning victory.

With the bases loaded and Greg Leonard already in with a run, Kane Fisher drove in three with a double to right-center to give the Panthers a 9-1 advantage. Josh Bledsoe and Eason Atkins followed with RBI hits.

Sky Robinette allowed one earned runs in three innings of work picking up the win.

Chapman will visit Seneca on Thursday in a winner’s bracket contest.

Landrum 4, Saluda 0

Christian Melick, Trey Smith and Coleman walker combined on a three-hitter for the Cardinals, who advance to take on the Andrew Jackson – Abbeville winner on Thursday.

The Cardinals loaded the bases and scored three on an error in the bottom of the first to put up all the runs they’d need. They tacked on another in the sixth for the final 4-0 margin.

Woodruff 5, Indian Land 2

The Wolverines rallied on the road, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-2 road win over second-seeded Indian Land.

Woodruff will now host No. 4 seed Walhalla, which upset Palmetto on Tuesday.

Nick Smith was the winner on the mound, with Jeremiah Steward nailing down the save. Charles Schaum drove in two runs to lead the Wolverines.

Nation Ford 8, Dorman 1

The Cavaliers face elimination on Thursday night after falling to the Falcons 8-1. Nation Ford jumped on top early, as the first three batters of the game walked before Tyler Causey launched a grand slam for a 4-0 lead. He doubled to drive in a run in the second inning. Nick Hoffman’s three-run double in the third provided all the runs Nation Ford would need.

Jack Renwick’s RBI hit in the sixth accounted for Dorman’s only run.

Dorman will host the loser of Wednesday night’s Riverside-Westside contest on Thursday.

Northwestern 2, Spartanburg 1

Spartanburg was a hard-luck loser at Northwestern on Tuesday, dropping a 2-1 decision to the top-seeded Trojans.

Satorian Mobley drove in a run on a squeeze play in the top of the fourth to give the visiting Vikings the lead, but Northwestern tallied in the sixth and seventh without the benefit of a hit or an error to eke out the win.

The Vikings will visit Hillcrest at 6:30 on Thursday.
