A very busy Monday will go a long way toward determining the fate of local teams in the SCHSL playoffs.
On the diamond, two pairs of region softball rivals are on a collision course for the upper hand in their respective Upper State playoff brackets.
Woodruff will host Region III-3A rival Broome and Boiling Springs will visit Region III-5A foe Byrnes in winners’ bracket games in the double-elimination Upper State tournament.
Boiling Springs downed Clover and Byrnes knocked off J.L. Mann to advance. Those two teams will play on Monday with the loser eliminated.
Broome defeated perennial powerhouse Crescent, while Woodruff downed Walhalla in the 3A ranks.
Landrum will also play in winners’ bracket action, as the Lady Cardinals will visit Buford in the 2A Upper State playoffs.
In the baseball playoffs, all remaining Spartanburg County teams have their backs against the wall.
Boiling Springs will visit Fort Mill in the 5A playoffs, while Landrum will travel to St. Joseph’s in the 2A classification. The loser of that game is eliminated, while the winner will face Chesnee in an elimination game at a time to be determined.
On the pitch, the Dorman girls will visit J.L. Mann for the 5A Upper State soccer championship. The Spartanburg tennis team will take on T.L. Hanna for the 5A Upper State crown.
