Tyler’s Week 3 Picks

Week three of the high school football season is here.  There are a few good games this week that feature local teams.  A couple of teams really impressed me last week, Byrnes and Spartanburg among them.  The Rebels moved to 3-0 with an impressive come from behind win over a very physical Don Bosco team. The Vikings pulled out an impressive win over Etowah after starting the season 0-2.  Zykamren Robinson was fantastic last week after returning from injury.  What does week three have in store for us??

Chesnee vs Chapman – Speed Factory Game of the Week

Chapman hasn’t surprised anyone so far this year. The offense has looked unstoppable even against the 5A Laurens Raiders last week.  Last week the offense was able to put 61 points on the board.  I’m not sure anyone can slow Colton Bailey and the Panther offense down.  Last week Chesnee did surprise a lot of folks pulling off a win against the Woodruff Wolverines.  Chesnee was dominated in their first game by the Broome Centurions, but looked better in game two against an inferior West Oak team.  This game should be interesting. Can the defensive mastermind Bill Owens find a way to slow down the Chapman offense? Can the Chesnee offense find a way to score enough points to match the Chapman offense.  Kyler Reagan was good last week for the Eagles in the win over Woodruff.  He will match wits this week with one of the best, if not the best quarterbacks in the state, Colton Bailey.  By the way, Colton Bailey moved into a tie for 6th all time in touchdowns last week tying Chapin’s Logan Bailey, and passing Marcus Lattimore.  I think Chapman is just too much for Chesnee.

Pick: Chapman

Byrnes vs Northwestern

The Rebels showed some guts last week.  Down as much as 21-7 the Rebels used defense and special teams to come back and beat a good Don Bosco team, who is usually a national power.  This week they get Northwestern, who is usually a state power.  The Trojans are 2-1 with their lone loss coming to South Pointe.  Losing to South Pointe isn’t a bad thing a lot of folks lose to the Stallions, who in my opinion are probably the best team in the state.  After that loss the Trojans have bounced back with good wins over Dorman and South Mecklenburg.  I expect this to be a good football game.  I think the Rebels may have the depend on that defense and special teams a gain this week to get a win.  Reggie Shaw will have the guys ready to go and the Rebels get the win.

Pick: Byrnes

Spartanburg at Union

The Vikings got off the deck last week after a 0-2 start and got a big win over Etowah.  The rushing attack for the Vikings, led by Zykamren Robinson was fantastic, and absolutely what the Vikings have been missing.  The Viking defense also did a better job of stopping the run in week 2.  The Yellow Jackets are 0-3 and are very young.  Last week against York they did run the ball a lot better to the tune of 350 yards.  This game will come down to who can run the ball better.  I think Spartanburg has a lot better athletes and will be able to run on Union County.

Pick: Spartanburg

Gaffney vs Harding University

Pick- Gaffney

Boiling Springs vs Rock Hill

Bulldogs lost last week to a very good TL Hanna team.  They will not lose this week to a not very good Rock Hill Bearcat team.  Seems like all the former Rock Hill talent went to South Pointe.

Pick: Boiling Springs

Other Picks

Woodruff over St Joes

Broome over Indian Land

Polk County over Landrum
