Week 5 Staff Picks

Here are our picks for Week 5.

Byrnes at Gaffney: (Clary)

This is the showdown everyone has wanted to see from day 1.  Two great teams, two incredible programs, and both are very well coached. Byrnes has been playing better so far this season but Gaffney has faced the tougher schedule so far. Look for this one to come down to which QB can make plays on 3rd down. Don’t forget…this game is at Gaffney

Gaffney 31  Byrnes 30

Hillcrest at SHS:   (Doski)

It’s the SHS home opener so emotions will be running high.  Hillcrest has been solid so far and their stud DEs will look to put pressure on the SHS OL which is finally healthy.  Zay Foster is questionable after getting knocked out the game last week which means the Scott twins will be rushing up field a good bit.  This one will come down to the last drive.

Hillcrest 30  SHS 28

Boiling Springs at Dorman:  (Clary)

The Bulldogs have already gone through more so far this season than most do in a year. Going to Dorman is never easy and this will be no exception.  The Cavs have not been tested once this year but don’t underestimate how good they looked last week at Hillcrest. The Cavs are beat up on the OL but look for Hayden Lee to make enough plays to improve to 2-0 in the region.

Dorman 38  Boiling Springs 13

Landrum at West Oak: (Clary)

This one won’t be close

Landrum 28  West Oak 0

Chesnee at Blacksburg: (Doski)

This will be one of the best defenses Chesnee sees all year.  Kimbrell will have to be close to perfect Friday night…which he certainly can be.  Expect this one to be low scoring.  Look for Blacksburg to make some big stops late.

Blacksburg 16  Chesnee 13

Wren at Broome: (Clary)

Wren can score and score in bunches.  They haven’t scored less than 44 points in a game yet and the other 3, they scored over 60.  Broome’s defense better be ready to play a physical contest and will have to force some turnovers.

Wren 48  Broome 34

Chapman at Eastside:  (Doski)

This could be another great shootout involving the Panthers.  The defense will have to make some big plays on their half of the field to pull off the win. Chapman has been tested and this will be another one. Closer than people think.

Chapman 48  Eastside 28
