Week 7 5A/4A Preview

It’s already week 7 of the high school football season, let’s take a look at the matchup in 5A and 4A in our listening area.

Gaffney @ Dorman

This is a huge game for both teams on Friday night. If Dorman wins it will set them up for next week’s game against Byrnes where with a win there would be in the driver seats to win this region once again. If Gaffney wins it put them back in the running to win the region title.

Gaffney was able to get a much-needed win over Hillcrest last week where they played well on both sides of the ball. Dorman rolled past the Spartanburg Vikings last week, and still have not been tested this season. This should be the first time we have seen Dorman in a close game this year.

It will be interesting to see how Dorman is able to execute when be testing in a tight ball game, will they be able to execute is the question that will be answered. Gaffney and Dorman’s games usually come down to the wire and this week should be no different.

Spartanburg @ Boiling Springs

This is another huge game for both these teams as they battling for that fourth playoff spot. Boiling Springs has had The Vikings number over the past couple of season so the Vikings are looking to put an end to that streak.

I see this game being a low scoring defensive battle type game, where ball security and field position are going to be vital in this one. I feel if the Vikings take care of the ball and not give Boiling Springs great field position this is a winnable game for them as the Bulldogs struggle on offense.

Byrnes @ Mauldin

Mauldin has been playing pretty good football over the last few weeks but they have the Byrnes Rebels coming into town and the Rebels are playing at a very high level.

Right now Byrnes really hasn’t shown any weaknesses on both sides of the ball and for Mauldin to knock them off they certainly have their work to do. As solid as Mauldin has been playing I see it tough for them to compete with the Rebels.

Byrnes balanced offensive attack and their stingy defense should help them win this one pretty comfortable and set up a big game next week against Dorman.

Travelers Rest @ Greer

The Yellow Jackets had another struggle last week in the region opener against Greenville. They will look to avoid a 0-2 start when they take on TR this week.

TR comes into this game with 5-1 record their only loss came last week against a very good Eastside team. The rest of their schedule has been pretty favorable for them so they haven’t had a challenging schedule. Greer has had the opposite kind of schedule where they really have challenged themselves, which I believe better prepares them for region play.

Greer defense has been solid this season, they just need to find a way to get their offense going. They have had some key injuries on offense which makes it tough for their young quarterback to establish chemistry with the weapons they do have. I see the defense for Greer keeping them in this game the question is can the offense score enough to win it for them.
