What a huge week of High School Football we have for Week 7. Here are our staff picks.
Gaffney at Dorman: (Anthony)
This one is all about speed. Dorman’s offense vs Gaffney’s defense will be fascinating to watch because both use their speed to create an edge. Gaffney has to have this one for the Region Title and Dorman is ready to show they are 6-0 for a reason. This one will be close.
Dorman 35 Gaffney 24
Spartanburg at Boiling Springs: (Doski)
It’s not a must win technically for both teams, but it sure is close. More so for Boiling Springs as they’ve already played Riverside. The Bulldogs have been able to slow down Spartanburg’s offense the past few years but it’s the Viking defense they’ll have to worry about. Same can be said for the Viking offense as the Bulldogs’ secondary has a ton of talent. Who can pick up 3rd downs is who’ll win Friday night.
Spartanburg 26 Boiling Springs 14
Byrnes at Mauldin: (Clary)
I have been very high on Mauldin since I saw them last year. They can run and are very well coached. They gave Gaffney a real scare at home earlier this year but Byrnes is a different task. Byrnes needs to get up early so Mauldin has to throw repeatedly or it could get interesting.
Byrnes 41 Mauldin 17
TR at Greer: (Doski)
The injuries are catching up to Greer but it’s time for a win. To make the playoffs, Greer has to get going in a hurry. Although history hasn’t been kind to TR, this year’s crew is solid. Greer has to run the football for 4 quarters to pull out their 2nd win of the season.
TR 27 Greer 20
Woodruff at Union: (Anthony) TCB Towing Game of the Week:
This one is unofficially for the Region Title. Bradley Adams returns to Union which should be fun. Before the season started, we all had Union as the winner here, but Woodruff and their ability to run the football that well has been one of the biggest surprises of the year due to what they lost last year. Union has settled into the season after the brutal nonregion schedule. This one could come down to the last drive.
Union 45 Woodruff 38
Chesnee at Broome: (Clary)
Chesnee is just amazing. What a really cool story after starting 1-4. Now they’ll have to focus on what winner’s do…not having a let down game. If Chesnee wins here, they could be playing Chapman for the Region Title in a couple of weeks. Broome has to find a way to get Chesnee into 3rd and longs and offensively, has to finish off drives. They’ve struggled with both lately but Coach Fleming is one of the best. He’ll have them ready.
Chesnee 31 Broome 28
Landrum at St. Joseph’s (Clary)
St. Joe’s is good and coming off their first loss of the year last week, they’ll be ready to bounce back, especially against a team they lost to last year. You don’t want to fall to 0-2 in this region. Landrum needs a big big day from Gentry, and needs to force a turnover or 2 in St. Joe’s territory.
St. Joe’s 24 Landrum 14
Chapman blows out Carolina.
