Staff Picks Week 8

Here are the staff picks for Week 8.

Dorman at Byrnes: (Clary)

This one is for the Region Title.  There are several scenarios where each one of these teams could win Friday night. Byrnes is explosive and physical…with speed.  Dorman is faster than I’ve ever seen them and despite not being as big up front, they can run with ease.  Every scenario I see has this game close with 3 minutes to go. It might come down to who has it last.

Dorman 38  Byrnes 37

Mauldin at Spartanburg: (Doski)

The Vikings have to have it and even though they lost in triple OT to Boiling Springs, the Vikings finally clicked on offense. The defense made some big plays and they’ll need to against a very solid Mauldin team. If DeAndre Miller and Zion Meadows can play, that’ll be a huge boost as anytime you get your two best players back would do. The Mavs can score and they’ll need to control the line of scrimmage to lock down a playoff birth.

Mauldin 26  Spartanburg  20

Gaffney wins

Boiling Springs at Hillcrest: (Clary)

The Bulldogs got their biggest win of the year when they needed it most in large part due to Jalen Dodd. 6 passing TDs.  These are two very even teams who need a win for a playoff birth.  Boiling Springs will look to feed their 3 headed monster at TB to control the clock.  Hillcrest has to create some turnovers to get a few more possessions.

Boiling Springs 23  Hillcrest 16

Christ Church at Landrum: (Doski)

Landrum has to have this one to secure a playoff birth. It’s been a solid year running the football for the Cardinals and I think they’ll continue to do so Friday night.

Landrum 28  CC 20

Greer at Berea: (Clary)

Greer has to have it.  It’s that simple.

Greer 21  Berea 10

Southside at Broome: (Doski)

This is the biggest game in 3A in our area. If Broome wins, they’ve all but secured a home playoff game. Coach Fleming tweaked the offense a little last week and it paid off against Chesnee. Southside knows they need to win to finish at least 2nd and don’t be fooled by their loss to Chesnee, they’re a good team and just got a little healthier. This one will be close.

Southside  36  Broome 26

Chesnee, Woodruff, and Union all win big.
