Staff Picks – Week 9

Here are our picks for Week 9.

Boiling Springs at Gaffney: (Clary) TCB Towing Game of the Week

Boiling Springs has made plays in the last two games late in the 4th Quarter to win two games they absolutely had to have. Give QB Jalen Dodd a lot of credit for his work ethic and development. The question this week is will they be in a situation to make a play in the 4th Quarter to determine the result. Gaffney is incredibly fast and is still trying to secure their playoff spot.  Look for Gaffney to be focused and get off to a fast start.

Gaffney 41  Boiling Springs 21

Dorman at Mauldin: (Clary)

A win for Dorman means another Region Title for the Cavs. Mauldin can play as they’ve shown the ability to go toe to toe with most teams on their schedule. It’s their speed that continues to give teams fits. But they’ve struggled to maintain that pace in the 4th Quarter. Dorman showed last week that they are the team to beat in the Upstate. The Cavs are the most balanced team in the Upstate on both sides of the ball. They know what they’re playing for and it’ll show.

Dorman 45  Mauldin 10

Hillcrest at Byrnes: (Doski)

The Rebels are a great team who came out on the wrong end of an incredible game last week. It’s their goal not to let Dorman beat them twice.  They won’t. Byrnes will physically dominate Friday night.

Byrnes 46  Hillcrest 6

Spartanburg will beat Riverside..by a lot.

Eastside at Greer: (Clary)

Greer got things righted last week in a blowout win over Berea.  Sometimes just getting a nice win can fix a lot of things.  Greer has been battling injuries all year and they’ll need the defense to step up big against a good Eastside team this week. It may be too much to ask.

Eastside 38  Greer 17

Southside at Chapman: (Doski)

Chapman is the #1 team in the state in the latest 3A polls. Whatever a paper poll says, we’ve known this to be true all year.  They’ll stay focused this week and a week off may be what they needed to get their very best performance of the year this week.

Chapman 52  Southside 8

Landrum at Blacksburg: (Clary)

It’s the true definition of a must win. Landrum has to have it to make the playoffs in a brutal region. The Cardinals need to shutdown Blacksburg’s offense by winning the line of scrimmage. Expect this one to be a hard fought, tough, old school type of ballgame.

Landrum 14  Blacksburg 10

Broome dominates Carolina. Woodruff will role Mid Carolina. Union will take care of business against Newberry.
