Dorman Headed to State

Tyler Shugart

Dorman defeated Riverside on Tuesday night 54-51 to win their fifth consecutive 5A Upper State Championship.  The Cavaliers will advance to the 5A State Championship game on Saturday to face River Bluff at 7:30 at USC Aiken.

The game was tied with just over twenty seconds left in the contest when Dorman got the ball. The Cavaliers took the ball down and Coach Thomas Ryan called timeout with eleven seconds left.  After the timeout Dorman comes out gets the ball to Zay Foster, who fakes a step forward steps back and launches a three with about three seconds left on the clock.  The shot went through giving Dorman the 54-51 lead with less than half a second left on the clock which afforded the Warriors no real chance at getting a shot off in an attempt to tie the game.

Foster led Dorman in the scoring category with sixteen points. Jalen Breazeale had eleven points in the win and Noah Clowney added ten.

The Cavaliers will look to win their fifth straight 5A state title on Saturday when they face River Bluff on Saturday at 7:30 at USC Aiken. River Bluff defeated Dutch Fork on Tuesday 45-43 to win the Lower State title. Dorman has won 18 consecutive games this season since losing to Riverside on December 15th.  The Cavaliers have amassed 23 playoff wins in a row dating back 5 years.
