Broome

Week Zero 2A/3A Preview

Matt Castillo

The long wait for the High School Football season is finally over as the 2021 season kicks off on Friday night. Let’s take a look at the two matchups from 2A and 3A to get you ready for some High School Football!

Broome @ Powdersville

The Broome Centurions had a difficult season a year ago dealing with injuries and covid issues. At one point in the season the Centurions went a whole month without playing a football game and once they were cleared to play the schedule was very difficult and they even had to play 2 games in one week.

With all of that going on it was difficult to get into any rhythm and therefore led to their struggles. The Centurions are looking to bounce back and start this season off strong as they travel down to Powdersville.

Powedersville faired well inside their region going 3-1 and but struggled out of region play last year as they went 1 and 2. I feel like this is a good matchup for Broome to start the season off on the right foot as I feel they are the better football team.

Broome is returning a lot of players including their starting quarterback Dylan Ramirez who I think will have a big year for the Centurions and help lead them to victory in this game.

Chesnee @ Woodruff

The Chesnee Eagles will travel to Woodruff to began their season and the past couple of years with Clay Lewis as their head coach, the Eagles have played really good football. They finished last year going 7-3 and won their region, and won their first-round playoff matchup.

But Chesnee has lost a lot of their seniors that help make this team successful over the past few seasons. It will be interesting to see the adjustments that Coach Lewis has made with many new faces starting and to see what players are able to step up.

For Woodruff, they may have lost some talent but still have kept plenty of key players as well such as their junior Quarterback Carson Tucker.  For me leading into this game, I feel Woodruff has a slight advantage as they have several more guys with more experience. I feel this game will be close but I am giving the slight edge to the Wolverines, but I do believe that Chesnee will get stronger and stronger as the season goes on.
