Week 1 of the high school football season is in the books and now it’s time to get you ready for week 2 of the season. Let’s take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A!
Broome @ Airport
Broome picked up their first victory of the season winning in a shootout against Chesnee 48-41. Broome’s starting quarterback Dylan Ramirez had himself another big night scoring a total of 4 touchdowns in the win.
Broome is going to need him and others on the offense side of the ball to continue to produce as Broome has struggled mightily on defense so far this season. Broome was supposed to travel to Liberty this Friday night but Liberty is in Covid Protocols so Broome will take on Airport now to try to make it two wins in a row.
Not much is known by me about Airport but I want to see Broome defense have themselves a solid game, a good game defensively i think will get their defense going which will be needed once region play begins.
Fairfield Central @ Chesnee
The Chesnee Eagles are looking to snap their two-game losing streak to start this season as they play host to Fairfield Central on Friday Night.
Fairfield Central enters the game 1-1 on the season as they lost their first matchup to Blythewood 22-6 and were able to pick up the win last week against Lancaster 22-18.
Chesnee for the third straight week is taking on a 3A school and in each week they have handled their own and this week I like them to get the win and pick up their first win of the season. I look for quarterback Jalen Rudisill to continue his great play for the Eagles and have another big game against the Griffins.
Crescent @ Landrum
It was a tough opener for the Landrum Cardinals last week as they fell to Christ Church 35-14. They will look to avoid an 0-2 start this week as they host crescent.
Crescent is entering this game with a 1-0 record as they defeated dixie 19-7 in their opener. The Cardinals are young and they will be going through growing pains this season, but I think they will have their opportunities in this game, the question is will they take advantage of them?
I expect this game to be a tight low scoring contest and I believe the Cardinals have a shot to get their first win of the season.
Union @ Laurens
This will be our first look at the Yellow Jackets this season as they will travel down to Laurens to face the Raiders. Union season has been delayed by two weeks due to Covid Protocols and we have seen last year how extended time off has hurt other programs. Will that be the case with Union is the question.
Laurens is 0-2 to start this season they lost in their opener to TL Hanna 23-17 and then lost last week to Clinton 21-19. Union has a lot of returning experienced players on the team including their Quarterback JaBryson Hunter.
I do think the delayed start might bother Union early on as they may be a little off, but as the game goes on I think Union will get more comfortable and in a rhythm and win this game.
