The high school football season is moving right along let’s take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A games in our local listening area.
Greer @ Union
It’s the battle of the Yellow Jackets, as Greer travels down to Union on Friday night for Union’s home opener.
Greer last played last Thursday night against Southside Christian and the Yellow Jackets lost a tough one by the final score of 23-15 to fall to 1-2 on the season. Greer struggled to protect the football as they fumbled on their first two possessions of the game, which put them in a 10-0 hole. Union is too solid of a football team to cough it up against, ball security has to be better this upcoming week.
Union is 0-2 as they fell last week to York by a final score of 33-26. This was another game where Union had their opportunities just came a bit short. I still believe Union has shown flashes of how good they can be they just have to put it together for 4 quarters.
But for this week I look for this matchup to be a tightly contested game but right now I am leaning towards the Yellow Jackets to win this one… Do you see what I did there?
Broome @ Emerald
The Broome Centurions struggled last week on the road as Indian Land put up 51 points against them in the 51-33 loss. They will look to bounce back and even up their record to 2-2 this week as they are once again on the road to face Emerald.
Broome has shown they can put up points they are averaging 36 points per game this season, but defensively they have really struggled as they are allowing 46 points per game so far.
The defense has to find ways to string together some stops, if they can do that I think this Broome team can get a roll with the offensive talent they have.
Emerald is only averaging 21 ppg so this could be a great chance for Broome to get their defense going.
Chapman @ Chesnee
The Chapman Panthers are coming off a surprising loss to Brooklyn-Cayce last Friday night at home. BC had only 30 players as well. Chapman went up 21-6 and looked like they were well on their way to blowing them out but you got to give BC some credit for the adjustments they made and they turned around the game to outscore Chapman 36-14 the rest of the way to win 42-35.
Chesnee did not play a game last week and they will have their hands full at home facing this Chapman team that will be looking to bounce back from their loss.
Chesnee has fought hard in each of their games this season but this is a tough matchup for them I am leaning towards the Panthers in this one.
Landrum @ SCA
Landrum has been on a roll winning their last two games and winning pretty comfortably last week they won by a final score of 34-6 against 96. Now they will try to make it three in a row against the Spartanburg Christian Academy.
SCA has struggled this year as they have been outscored 131-9 in their first three games. The way the Cardinals defense has been playing I look for SCA to continue to have struggles on Friday night. I believe the Cardinals win this one to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Woodruff @ BHP
The Woodruff Wolverines have not played in two weeks due to covid protocols and they return this week and travel to BHP.
Woodruff’s last game was against Hillcrest where they fought hard but the Rams were a little too much for them to handle as they fell 41-24.
Woodruff’s QB Carson Tucker suffered an Injury and is expected to miss the rest of the season so it will be interesting to see how Woodruff is able to replace him.
BHP comes into the game with a 1-2 record and I feel like Woodruff will have their opportunities in this one the question is can they get enough offensive production with their QB being out.
