Week 5 Picks

Hard to believe it is week 5 of the high school football season. I went 5-2 on my picks last week and that give me a 21-9 mark on the season.

There are some good games this week as we look forward to region play beginning for most of our area teams next week.

Landrum at Broome-Spartanburg Nutrition Game of the Week

Landrum has won three games in a row and are improving each and every week. The defense has been really good all season and the offense is starting to catch up.

Broome has had a really good offense in this first half of the season and they need for their defense to catch up.

This is likely to be a really tight football game.  Landrum should be able to get a few big plays, they can really run the football.  In the end I think Broome can get a couple of stops.

Pick-Broome

Spartanburg at Dutch Fork

The Vikings the week off last week, giving them an extra week to prepare for the 5 time 5A state champ Silver Foxes.  The Vikings have looked better and better each week and continue to open up the offense.  Will this be the week we see Jeter really take off? Jeter running RPO’s will really make this offense even better.

Dutch Fork needs no explanation. They are good the offense is nearly unstoppable.

Greer at Woodruff

Greer is coming off a win over Union County last week in the Jacket Bowl and it appears like their young offense is improving each week.  The leadership of Hollis Crosby has held this team together through a couple of tough loses early in the season and things are looking up for the Yellow Jackets.

Woodruff fell last week to BHP after coming off a Covid shutdown and having to start a new quarterback.  Woodruff looked like they found something that worked late in the game offensively.

This should be a really good football game and a great final tuneup before region play begins for both of these programs.

Pick-Greer

Other Picks-

Dorman is coming off a Covid shutdown and taking on what is usually a good Ridge View Blazers team.  Ridge View is 2-1 having beat Westwood and North Augusta. The Blazers lone loss of the season came to Gray Collegiate. I think Dorman is able to shake the rust off and get it done.

Chesnee is taking a long drive to Timberland and I like the Eagles to come home with their first win.

Gaffney will also win a close game over a very good Gray Collegiate team.

Boiling Springs is having hard time finding any offense so Ill take the Mauldin Mavericks to win tonight
