Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field. This week I focus on 3 things I took away from the 42-13 loss to Dutch Fork
1-Make no mistake…that is the best team in the state. Period. I have never seen OL move that fast, or DEs and LBs move that fast into the backfield. Dutch Fork is scary good and Spartanburg held their own on many fronts. The Offense moved the ball and made some nice plays. It was great to see Garrett Fulmer come in late and lead 2 TD drives. Spartanburg is heading in the right direction and there were a lot of positives to take away.
2-Que Moore and Jay Staggs are real threats. These guys used their speed against the fastest defense I’ve seen maybe ever and made big plays. Their route running has improved tremendously. The Viking WR core is as deep as it has been in years and Moore and Staggs are not only starters, they are 3rd down targets as well. With Danton and Richardson having big years, this group can be a real strength the rest of the year.
3-Spartanburg has to do stop leaving points off the board. This isn’t just about last week, but an accumulation of the first few weeks. The Vikings move the ball on everyone but when we get inside the 30, finishing drives has been a problem. If the Vikings want to win the Region, we’ll need to find the endzone a lot more than we have and yes I know we scored a lot against Hillcrest and Boiling Springs, but we also left over 20 points off the board each game.
