Week 8 2A/3A HS Football Preview

Week 8 of the high school football season featrues several exciting games that will have a big impact inside region play. Let’s take a look at the 2A/3A matchups from our local listening area.

Chapman @ Clinton

The Chapman Panthers, who won big last week against Emerald 52-3, will have their biggest region challenge yet as they will travel down to Clinton. This is basically the region title game and it features two teams that has played really good football this season.

Clinton has opened up its region play by blowing out both Union and Broome. Defensively the Red Devils have been lights outs holding both Union and Broome to just 14 points. Both those offense’s are capable of putting up big points but they couldn’t get anything going against Clinton stingy defense.

I believe the Chapman Panthers will win this game but it will be close and I expect both teams to trade blows in this one, but in the end I see the combination of Settle and Black being the difference in this game and helping Chapman to the win.

Union County @ Broome

Both teams need this game or the playoffs are looking bleak for whoever is to lose this game. Union County is coming off of a tough loss at home against Woodruff. That game was a shootout but in the end Woodruff was able to make the key stoops and won by a final score of 63-49.

Broome was defeated soundly against the Clinton Red Devils by a final score of 47-14. Broome came into that game hot but the Red Devils were to much to handle.

As mentioned before both teams really need this game because the loser will have a real hard time making the playoffs. Both teams have really struggled on defense and I believe those struggles will continue in this one.

I believe that this will be a high scoring contest but in the end, right now, I am giving Union the slight edge to win a close one.

Landrum @ Chesnee

This another fun matchup that I look forward to following on Friday Night and I expect this game to a very entertaining matchup.

Landrum is coming off their region opener with a win against Blacksburg by a final score of 37-7. Landrum simply dominated this game right from the opening kickoff, and they would love to put them in a prime position to win this region if they can improve to 2-0

Chesnee will look to keep their hopes of winning this region alive and evening up their region record to 1-1 by winning this game. Chesnee fell to St. Joes in their region opener by a final score of 14-7.

Both teams play a very similar style of offense so both teams should be very firmilar with one another and I expect this game to be a low scoring contest.

In the end I really like how the Landrum Cardinals are playing on the defensive side of the ball, and if this was early on in the season I would be leaning towards Chesnee to win this game, but right now I believe it will be the Landrum Cardinals that get the win in a close one this week.

Woodruff @ Emerald

The Woodruff Wolverines are coming off a wild win against Union as I mentioned earlier in this article by a final score of 63-49. Woodruff defense certainly did struggle but they did string together stops when they needed to and their offense just could not be stopped by Union.

Emerald was blown out by a very good Chapman Panthers team that i also mentioned earlier in the article by a final score of 52-3.

I like Woodruff to win this one and pick up their second straight region win, I think their offense will be to much for Emerald to handle and I think the Woodruff defense will also make an adjustment in this game and will be able to string together more stops.
