It is really hard to believe that we are at week eight of the season already. Seems like just yesterday we were all getting excited about the week zero matchups. This season has really been one to remember, and the real fun is just starting.
Week eight has some big matchups in store with games that have region title and playoff implications on the line. I am pumped to say the least.
This weeks Spartanburg Nutrition Game of the week is Chapman at Clinton. These two teams have been rolling. Clinton is 7-0 (2-0) while the Panthers are 4-2 (2-0). This game is basically your region championship. Two teams that put a lot of points on the board but they do it in different ways. Clinton wants to run, run, and run some more. Misdirection, sometimes smash mouth, and a ton of great athletes on both sides of the ball. Chapman of course can do a lot of things on offense but their bread and butter is letting their qb Drew settle make big plays with his arm. When you have receivers like DJ Black that is easy to do.
Chapman’s strength is obviously their offense. Clinton has the ability to keep the ball out of the hands of Settle by running the ball and limiting Chapman’s possessions. Can Chapman take advantage when they have the ball?
Pick: Clinton
Another huge game in our area is Dorman at Byrnes. Dorman lost a tough one to Gaffney last week and the Cavs had their chances in that game. Byrnes smoked Riverside 70-0. This is a most win for the Rebels to keep their hopes for a region title alive. If the win and Dorman beats Spartanburg in week 10 that will cause a three way tie at the top. Dorman wants to run the football and Byrnes can do it all offensively. Can they find the defense to stop Dorman? I think they can.
Pick: Byrnes
Landrum at Chesnee
The Cardinals started the region slate 1-0 with an impressive win over Blacksburg last week and Chesnee dropped their first region contest 14-7 to St Joe’s. With a win Landrum would likely play St. Joe’s in week 10 for the region title. Coach Farmer told me that they are treating this game like it is for the region championship. I think Landrum’s really good defense can slow Chesnee down just enough to win this week
Pick: Landrum
Union at Broome
Both of these teams desperately need a win. Union is winless on the season and both teams haven’t won a region contest. The loser of this game is in real trouble when it comes to making the playoffs. Union cannot seem to get it together on the defensive side of the football and that could spell trouble for the Jackets against a very good Broome offense. This game will be high scoring.
Pick: Broome
Other Picks:
Woodruff beats Emerald to lock in their playoff birth.
Greenwood beats Greer and leaves the Jackets searching for a region win.
Gaffney will beat Nation Ford and all but win the region title.
Clover beats Boiling Springs and puts the Bulldogs chances of making the playoffs in real jeopardy.
Week eight should be a lot of fun and will hopefully make the playoff picture much clearer for a lot of teams. Here is to hoping we have a great week!!
Overall Record 32-10
