Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field. This week I focus on 3 things I took away from the 35-7 win over Riverside.
1-The secondary looked great. It was awesome to see everyone healthy in this group and as Riverside attacked down the field, the Viking secondary stayed stride for stride with the Warrior WRs. The Spartanburg Safeties were all over the field in coverage and around the line of scrimmage. Hopefully this will continue and this group stays healthy.
2-It was great to see Drek Carter back. His explosiveness is a welcomed site to the Viking offense. He’s battled injuries all year long and hopefully he can stay healthy the rest of the way. Spartanburg needs a healthy Drek Carter. He showed why Friday night against Riverside with 13 carries for 99 yards and a TD.
3-Ian Squires – My goodness. Several tackles around the line of scrimmage, a huge Interception at the Viking 5 yard line, and several plays where he made an impact not on the stat sheet. The Junior DE was the player of the game and I can’t wait to see him next week.
