3 Things Playoffs Round 1

3 Things

Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field.  This week I focus on 3 things I took away from the 49-28 win over Woodmont

1-Let’s start with Drek Carter.  Man did this Junior Tailback look explosive.  Drek has been battling injuries all year but he’s getting healthier and his ability to cut without losing speed is not something you see a lot in High School Football.  Tavien Feaster could do it…Damajai Foster could do it…and I haven’t seen anyone since who could.  He’ll be need this week for 4 quarters but last Friday in just 1 quarter, he had 8 carries for 65 yards and 2 TDs.

2-We’ve heard so much about how dominant the Viking C team was this season and we saw a glimpse of the future last Friday Night.  Freshman Quarterback T.J Johnson played the last 3 quarters and showed his ability to throw downfield and move around in the pocket.  Fellow Freshman WR Justin Rice looked like his future at SHS will be bright with excellent route running and a ton of speed.  A lot of Freshmen and Sophomores played Friday night on both sides of the ball and the future at Spartanburg High School looks incredible.

3-It was so great to see a playoff game at Viking Stadium. It was the first ever at “Home” and we’ll have many more in the future. I really hope this Friday fans show up and support these kids because let’s not forget it’s been a few years since we’ve been in the playoffs…let alone a couple of home playoff games.  The Vikings have worked incredibly hard this year and are really starting to believe in themselves.
