Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field. This week I focus on 3 things I took away from the 37-29 win over Spring Valley.
1-A few congratulations to go around. WR Andrew Danton has gone over 1000 yards receiving on the year. He’s taken a massive step forward as the leading WR for the Vikings this year. His rhythm with QB Raheim Jeter is one of the best QB-WR connections I’ve seen this year. He had 4 more catches for 64 yards in the win Friday Night.
2-As Danton went over 1000 yards, it was Sr WR TiheimRichardson who had the big night in the win over Spring Valley. He had 8 catches for 124 yards and 3 TDs. I was told it was his best week of practice leading up to this game and it was great to see his hard work pay off. He was unstoppable Friday Night as Spring Valley had no one who could answer his leaping ability.
3-Spartanburg’s plan was to get physical with Spring Valley and wear them out. That’s not a style we’ve been able to turn to much this year but it worked brilliantly Friday Night against Spring Valley. Between pounding the football between the tackles on offense, to pressuring their WRs on defense, Spartanburg made this a physical, hard fought football game and Spring Valley had no answer. Although the final score was close, it was 37-7 mid way through the 4th Quarter and the starters had been pulled. The Vikings got better Friday Night as we found another way to win. Spartanburg’s win streak now sits at 6.
