Some changes are coming for 2022 in High School Sports. The SCHSL sent out their proposed realignment for 2022-2024 on Friday and some local teams will be moving regions and have some new region foes.
Region 2 5A would reunite our area teams from 5A in one region. The region will consist of Byrnes, Boiling Springs, Dorman, Gaffney and Spartanburg.
Our area 3A teams would be split into two regions.
Region 3 3A would be Blue Ridge, Broome, Carolina, Chapman, and Travelers Rest.
Region 4 3A would be Chester, Clinton, Emerald, Union, and Woodruff.
Region 2 4A would be the region that consists of Greer, Eastside, Laurens, Riverside, and Wade Hampton.
2A would see some changes as well for our local teams. For Football only in Region 1 it would be Blacksburg, Chesnee, Landrum, Liberty, Abbeville and Ninety-Six. In all other sports it Abbeville and Ninety-Six would be replaced by Greer Middle College, and Greenville Tech Charter.
Other areas of interest include Northwestern moving from 5A to 4A and 5A potentially having a hybrid region that includes Dutch Fork. Ridge View also dropped from 5A to 4A.
