Mitch’s Top 5 Sports Moments Of The Year

2021 is coming to end and this year certainly did provide some exciting moments in sports and now is a perfect time to look back and pick my top five best sports moments of the year!

#5 Tigers Return: PNC Championship

This is a recent moment from this past year as the PNC Championship was played a few weeks ago. Last year this was a great event to watch as Tiger and his son Charlie played golf together. The world got to see that an 11-year-old is 1000x better than you at golf.

But this year seeing Tiger out there with Charlie was even more special, as it was unknown if Tiger would be able to play golf again after his car accident in February. Tiger revealed that it was a possibility that he could’ve lost his leg from the injuries that he suffered.

To see Tiger out there playing again was an early Christmas gift for all golf fans and not only just getting to see him play but seeing him play well was a bonus. His swing looked good, and yes you can tell he still has a long way to go but there is no doubt in my mind that we will see the goat tee off in a PGA Tour event soon!

#4 Giannis Gets A Ring!

This NBA Finals I can’t lie I was rooting for Chris Paul to get his first ring but seeing Giannis get his first ring was pretty cool to see as well. I mean how can you not like Giannis I don’t think there is a more humble superstar in sports.

The Bucks have suffered from many disappointing playoff exits and many questioned if Giannis should stay with the Bucks because they felt like they do not have enough to win a championship. Well, Giannis stayed loyal to the organization and the Buck proved everyone wrong winning the championship.

The Bucks were down in the Finals 2 games to none and made the proper adjustments and Giannis simply just took over to win the next four games to bring the title to Milwaukee. Giannis’ game 6 performance to me was one of the best performances in Finals history scoring 50 points 14 rebounds and 5 blocks.

#3 USA Dominates in the Ryder Cup

There was some doubt with Team USA heading into the Ryder Cup with storylines such as Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka feud, many were concerned about the team chemistry and how that could affect the team. Also, this was the fourth-youngest Ryder cup roster so many were concerned that the lack of experience could hurt team USA.

But from day one Team USA showed they were locked in and there were no issues as they came out and set the tone early and never looked back! Team USA would go on to win 19-9 and bring the Ryder Cup trophy back home!

Dustin Johnson was unstoppable as he picked up 5 points for Team USA and Colin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay both picked up 3 and a half points each for the United States. It truly was a dominating effort that was a lot of fun to watch!

#2 Ohtani Historic Year

Shohei Ohtani’s 2021 MLB season was unbelievable the only down part to it is he is on the Angels who are awful, but the year that he put together as a positional player and pitcher has not been seen since Babe Ruth!

As a hitter, Ohtani hit 46 homers with 100 RBI’s and well as scoring 103 times while batting .257. He even added 26 stolen bases, so there was nothing that this guy didn’t do at the plate.

As a pitcher, Ohtani was 9-2 on the year with a 3.18 ERA. He struck out 156 hitters to just 46 walks in 130.1 innings pitched. Ohtani’s historic season earned him the MVP award and rightfully so. To see something that has not been done since Babe Ruth was exciting to see. I don’t know how long Ohtani could do both a pitcher and positional player but to see him have success with it was awesome.

#1 Braves Winning the World Series

I am not a Braves fan but I have always had had respect for them so if my Yankees couldn’t win it I was rooting for the Braves to get it done. The run they had was incredible as they took down some juggernauts to win their first World Series since 1995.

To make it better they defeated the Cheating Astros denying them the World Series Trophy or as the Idiotic commissioner would say just a piece of metal.

The Braves at the All-Star break were underachieving in fact I had them as one of the most disappointing teams of the season but in that article, I did say I still believe they would turn it around and be a team that nobody wants to face and that certainly became the case.

Many Braves fans were counting out this team but they failed to realize they have a genius running the organization and that genius is Alex Anthopolous who made some moves at the trade deadline and all of the moves didn’t breakdown their farm system and each of those guys had a major impact in the playoffs in helping them win the world series like the Jorge Soler who won the World Series MVP.

The Braves lost Ronald Acuna Jr for the season and had some major injuries to their pitching rotation but they always found a way to get the job done, their title run was the most impressive moment of the 2021 year for sure.
