Bump and Run

Laurette Dickerson Passes Away

Coach Dave Dickerson has become a great friend to out radio station. He has been very good to us and always is very generous of his time coming on Bump and Run to talk about his team and continuing to join us to lend his expertise in college basketball to us after his season was done.

We had talked a few times about his wife and her health issues.  Coach Dickerson last season, during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic, elected to stay home and coach remotely so he wouldn’t risk bringing home the virus to his wife, who while battling stage four cancer would have been particularly susceptible to the virus.

When I heard the news of the death of Coach’s wife on Wednesday I was heartbroken for him and his son, who plays for the Spartans.  I cannot imagine the pain of losing a wife or a mother.

All of us at Fox Sports Spartanburg want to extend our heartfelt condolences to Coach and his son Dave Dickerson III on the loss of their wife and mother, and we ask all of our listeners to remember them in the days ahead and keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they try to deal with this lose.

The following is the announcement from USC Upstate Athletics on the news of the passing of Laurette Dickerson:

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Laurette Dickerson,  wife of our head men’s basketball coach Dave Dickerson and mother of men’s basketball student-athlete, Dave Dickerson III.  Laurette courageously fought stage four breast cancer for nearly 5 years.  Arrangements have not been announced as of this time.

“On behalf of our department, we are heartbroken for Dave, D3 and the entire Dickerson family,” said Daniel Feig, Director of Athletics.  “Laurette fought her battle against cancer with courage and grace, and inspired so many with her strength and contagious positive disposition.  Dave’s been a pillar of strength for Laurette over the past few years, and their relationship a testament to true love and an example for us all.  What Dave has balanced, both personally and professionally the last few weeks and months, has been truly extraordinary.

Please keep Dave, D3, and their entire family in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days and weeks as they grieve this unimaginable loss.  Thank you for your support of the Dickerson family.”
