College Corner: SMC Baseball

The SMC Pioneers began their week at home with a double-header against Columbia International Jv and it was a successful start to their week as the Pioneers swept the doubleheader.

They won the first game 7-1 as Jordan Young was 2-3 at the plate and scored three runs in the win, while Brandon Moser was 2-4 and drove in two runs in the win. Myles Daniels picked up his 5th win of the season pitching five innings giving up no earned runs and striking out six hitters, the save was picked up by Braison Bourne.

SMC would win game two of the doubleheader by a final score of 9-3 the Pioneers had a team total of 10 hits in the win as Moser and Young combined for four of the hits. Garrett Hodges picked up the win in relief pitching 2.1 innings allowing just  1 hit.

The Pioneers hosted Florence-Darlington Technical College this weekend for a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday. In the first game, Florennce-Darlington won by a final score of 18-4, but the Pioneers bounced back and won 7-3 A’Shani McFarland led the way offensively going 3-4 at the plate scoring a run and driving in a couple as well.

On Sunday it was a tough day for the Pioneers as they fell in the first game 21-1 and then they would fall in the second game 13-7. Overall the Pioneers were 3-3 this week bringing their overall record to 26-15 and their conference record to 12-4.

The Pioneers will be on the road this week as they will play in a four-game set as they play USC Sumter.
