How is it already week 4? We don’t have much non-region play left as region games are just around the corner. Just a couple of tuneup games left before the games really start to count. Let’s see what’s on tap for this week.
Boiling Springs at Greer-Game of the Week
The Bulldogs and the Yellow Jackets both have one win on the season and will be looking for win number two tonight.
The Bulldogs beat Chapman a couple of weeks back and lost a one-sided affair to Hillcrest last week. Boiling Springs has to be able to find some offensive consistency.
The Yellow Jackets lone win of the season came against Blue Ridge a couple weeks ago and since that game they Jackets have looked like a different team. They have been able to run the ball better and the defense played pretty good last week against a good Byrnes team. If they can establish the run early this week that can get win number two on the season.
Pick Greer
Gaffney at Northwestern
Again, the Gaffney Indians are the most interesting team in our area. After a loss last week to Mallard Creek the Indians are 1-2 and have really struggled on the offensive side of the football.
I am very interested to see if the Indians can finally find some offense because having offensive woes isn’t what you want when facing Northwestern. The Trojans score and score often. It will be a big test for Gaffney tonight to see if their defense can slow Northwestern down enough to keep the team in it and allow the offense to try and find their way.
Pick: Northwestern
Riverside at Spartanburg
The Vikings have played what is probably the most difficult schedule I have ever seen over this first four game stretch. Two top ranked Georgia High School teams and Dutch Fork were three of their first four opponents, so to say the Vikings have been tested early is an understatement. That was exactly Coach Hodge’s plan when we scheduled these games. While the Vikings are just 1-3 to start the talent and the promise of this Viking team has been apparent.
With two non-region contests left before the real games begin the Vikings are going to look to continue to get better and improve their overall play before the region starts in a couple weeks.
Tonight is a great chance for them to work on themselves as they face the Riverside Warriors.
Riverside, a former region foe, is now in 4A and are improved from the Riverside of old. I don’t think that they are improved enough to win this game however.
Other Picks:
Union over Laurens as the Jacket defense continues to grow and improve.
Landrum beats SCA. I have been thoroughly intrigued this week by SCA and their Two quarterbacks in the backfield at the same time.
Dorman over Clover.
Woodruff gets the better of Chesnee tonight.
Chapman got their first win last week and looked improved but I think they will struggle tonight against Clinton. I got the Red Devils in this one.
I think the Byrnes Rebels will roll Wren.
Last but not least I think Broome wins big over Berea and we will continue talking about how good Broome’s young running back is.
There you have it my picks and thoughts on week 4 of the season. Looking forward to kickoff tonight of some great high school football games.
