Week 5 Picks

The final week of non-region play is here.  Next week we get to talk about region games or other words games that count.  There are some good games tonight including a lot of measuring stick games for local teams.

Chapman at Union-GOTW Presented by USC Union-

This game has developed into a pretty good rivalry game over the last few years.  The teams have met a lot recently in region contests and even in the playoffs a couple times.

Both teams have had their struggles this year. Union has struggled mightily on the defensive side of the ball in a few games this year and didn’t play well on either side of the ball last week in a one sided loss to the Laurens Raiders.

Chapman struggles have come offensively. Their defense has been good this year and even great at times, but the offense has struggled to find an identity and the end zone.

So which will give tonight? Can the Union defense find their way or will it be the Chapman offense that gets enough done to win?

Pick: Chapman

Byrnes at West Florence-

This may be the most interesting game of the week.  Byrnes has been blowing out opponents left and right this year.  They haven’t been tested all that much.  This week may be different.

West Florence is a good football team especially on the offensive side of the football. Can they score enough though to keep up with the Rebels? Their defense can be shaky at times, but that offense which relies heavily on the run is good and fast.

Byrnes is hurting at linebacker, but I think they have enough playmakers to get the job done tonight and cruise into region play undefeated.

Pick: Byrnes

Broome at Woodruff

The big question for me in this game is whose defense can make the most plays?

Can the front seven of the Wolverines stop the running attack of the Centurions?

Can the Broome defense get pressure on Carson Tucker and keep the Woodruff receivers from getting the ball in space?

Both offenses have their moments its time for defense to shine.

Pick: Woodruff

Other Picks:

Clover over Boiling Springs

Dorman comfortably over River Bluff

Westside over Greer

Gaffney beats Fort Dorchester

Blue Ridge edges the Landrum Cardinals
