Week 8 2A/3A Preview

Week 8 of the high school football season is the third week inside region play let’s take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A region.

Woodruff @ Clinton

Woodruff was able to even up their region record to 1-1 last Friday Night in a close win against Emerald by a final score of 35-28. They will be looking to get over .500 this week in the region but have to go through an excellent Clinton team to do so.

Clinton is coming off a bye week but their last game was against Union to open region play and they simply made quick work out of the Yellow Jackets winning by the final score of 61-7.

This is going to be a big test for the Wolverines as Clinton is strong on both sides of the ball so Woodruff will have to be on their game on Friday Night. But right now I am thinking that Clinton will be a little too much to handle for Woodruff and I see the Red Devils getting the win.

Landrum @ Abbeville

The Landrum Cardinals have found success so far in region play starting off 2-0 after a strong performance by them against 96 winning by a final score of 45-31.

The biggest test, however, will be this Friday Night for the Cardinals as they take on a juggernaut in Abbeville, who played Chesnee last week and won by a final score of 49-0.

The Cardinals are going to need to dominate the time of possession and keep Abbeville off the field. They must put themselves in third and short situations and they have to convert. They also got to finish off drives and find the Endzone and defensively they are going to have help win the field position battle and force some turnovers if they are going to win this game.

I love how the Cardinals have been playing and I hope it continues but I feel Abbeville will be too much to handle for the Cardinals.

Travelers Rest @ Chapman

The Chapman Panthers had their open week last week but they are coming into this game on a modest two-game win streak including their region opener a couple of weeks ago against Carolina, where they would go on to win by a final score of 42-0. The Panthers will look to remain hot but will have to defend their home field against TR on Friday Night.

TR so far in region play has a 1-1 record. They lost to Broome in a tight game a few weeks ago by a final score of 30-21 and then they were able to bounce back against Carolina last week winning 35-3.

I think both these teams this year are evenly matched and I expect this game to be tight, but in the end, I do think it’s Chapman that has started to produce offensively and I feel like they will make enough plays to win this game. TR certainly can put up some points themselves so Chapman’s defense will have a little challenge here but I think they are up for it.

Chesnee @ Blacksburg

The Chesnee Eagles fell to 0-7 last week and 0-2 in region play when they were matched up against Abbeville and lost by a final score of 49-0.

Blacksburg also enters this game at 0-7 and 0-2 in region play their latest loss was last week against Liberty as they fell by a final score of 44-29.

Both these teams are desperate to snap their losing streak and get into the win column and I have stated several times this year Chesnee has been in several close games that they have let slip away and the past two weeks they have not been able to get any offense going. I think that changes this week and the Eagles have some success on the offensive side of the football and I see them getting their first win of the season.
