We are just a few days away from Friday Night and Week 9 of the High School Football season, which is the fourth week inside region play. Let’s take a look at the matchups from Friday Night!
Ninety-Six @ Chesnee
The Chesnee Eagles won their first game of the season last week as they defeated Blacksburg 28-25. It was a hard-fought win for the Eagles and now they will look to make it 2 in a row as they play host to Ninety-Six.
Ninety-Six comes into this game with a 2-1 region record and they are coming off a win against Liberty with the final score being 28-21.
I would love to see Chesnee build some momentum after the win last week and pick up two in a row, but right now I am leaning towards Ninety-Six getting the win, they have just been more consistent on both sides of the football than Chesnee has so I see Chesnee falling just short in this one.
Liberty @ Landrum
The Landrum Cardinals had a tough matchup against a strong Abbeville team last week as they fell by a final score of 48-0. The Cardinals will look to bounce back this week at home against Liberty and pick up their third region win.
Liberty as mentioned earlier fell in a tight one to Ninety-Six last week by a final score of 28-21, and with that loss, their region record is 1-2 and they are sitting in 4th place in the region, so they want to pick up a win and start climbing the standings inside the region.
Landrum had a rough one last week against a very good Abbeville team, but overall they have been playing some solid football inside region play and I believe that will continue this week I see the Cardinals bouncing back and getting to 3-1 inside the region.
Broome @ Carolina Academy
The Broome Centurions are coming off a bye week last week but are coming into this matchup with a 2-0 record inside region play so they are looking to win this game and put themselves in a position to win the region.
It has been a tough go for Carolina Academy as they have lost 5 straight games and have suffered from several lopsided defeats. They are a young team with not a lot of depth and that has shown this season.
I expect Broome to take care of business against Carolina and I see them winning big, expect to see a running clock in this game.
Blue Ridge @ Chapman
The Chapman Panthers are coming off a dominating win against TR last Friday night in a game that was never in doubt as they won by a final score of 53-13. With that win, the Panthers moved to 2-0 inside region play and are looking to improve to 3-0 to set themselves up for a chance to win the region.
Blue Ridge is coming into this game with a 1-1 record inside region play and their latest region game was against Carolina as they won by a final score of 42-6. This is a big game for Blue Ridge as well as they are trying to stay alive in the region title race.
Chapman had a slow start this season and really struggled on offense but they seemed to have figured out those struggles and they have been clicking on all cylinders once region play began. Blue Ridge has had a really solid season so far, but in the end, I like the way Chapman Panthers have been playing and I believe they get the win at home setting us up for a region championship match next week against Broome.
Union @ Emerald
Union had a bye week last week and it has been a rough go for them as of late as they have now lost 4 straight games and none of the games were really that close. Their last loss came to Chester a couple of weeks ago where they fell 33-14. Will this be the week the Yellow Jackets snap their losing streak and get their first region win?
Emerald is also entering this game with a losing streak with two straight losses and their latest loss, which put them at 0-2 inside the region, came from Chester as they would fall 33-13.
Both teams are desperate to find a way to win a region game, right now I am leaning towards Emerald to win this one, Union has been banged up and hasn’t shown any consistency so far this year. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Union have their opportunities in this one but like I said I think Emerald does enough to win.
