Week 9 Picks

Only two weeks left in the regular season for high school football.  Huge games on tap for these next two weeks as teams look to win region titles and clinch playoff births.  The next two weeks promise to bring a lot of fun and excitement and we can’t wait for it all to unfold.

Dorman at Gaffney-GOTW

We know what we get when it comes to Dorman. They are a team that wants to run the football relying heavily on their big offensive line, running back Demarius Foster, and DJ Porter to rush other teams into submission.  So far they have been able to do that. Last week with Byrnes they jumped out to a quick lead but Byrnes was able to battle back due to some Dorman mistakes and it took a last second field goal for Dorman to stay undefeated.  Can they do it again tonight.

With Gaffney we never know what team is going to show up.  They are as up and down a team as I can remember. Some weeks the offense looks unstoppable and some weeks they can’t get out of their own way.  On thing that has remained constant is their defense, which has been lights out all year long.

Gaffney can stop the run. The also have the physical ability to come as close as anyone so far to matching the size and physicality of Dorman. These game could prove to be an absolute classic.

Pick:Dorman

Landrum vs Liberty

Landrum ran into a buzzsaw last week when they made the trip down to Abbeville and lost a one-sided affair to the Panthers.  Everyone knows that Abbeville is among the cream of the crop in two and have been for a long time.  Landrum can’t allow that loss to linger.  This is a big game this week for the Cardinals.  Landrum is in line to earn the two seed in region one which would mean a home playoff game for the Cardinals when the playoffs start in a couple weeks.

Landrum will look to lean on their talented running backs this week to beat a Liberty team that is very similar to Landrum.

Pick:Landrum

Chapman vs Blue Ridge

From the looks of things the Chapman offense has finally figured out who they are.  They have been playing much better and are finally not struggling as much to score.  A win tonight for Chapman would set up a big winner-take-all region title game next week with Broome.

Blue Ridge will provide the Panthers with a good test.  The Tigers are not a bad football team especially on the offensive side of the football.  The Tigers can put up some points so it is likely that Chapman will have to as well.

Pick:Chapman

Other Picks:

Greer beats Wade Hampton setting up a big game next week with Riverside.

Emerald dashes Union County’s playoff hopes.

Ninety-Six will edge Chesnee.

Broome big over Carolina.

Som big games tonight that could set up some really big games next week.  This is absolutely the greatest time of year.  Cannot wait to see how things shake out!
