Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field. Some good, some great, some not so good. I’ll try to break through what mattered, and what not to overreact to. So here’s 3 things from Week 9’s 56-14 win over Boiling Springs.
1-This Senior Class has truly been an incredible representation for Spartanburg High School. Unselfish, great teammates, hardworking…it’s been so much fun to watch these kids grow up on and off the field. Senior Day is always a celebration but can be a tough one as well knowing that this may be the last time we see them at home. This group has a Region Title in hand, an Upper State Championship appearance, a win over Dorman and 2 over Byrnes, and countless great moments.
2-Keke! 9.8 yards per touch not including special teams…on the Season. That’s it. That’s the post.
3-Spartanburg HAS to stop making so many penalties and it’s the after the play is finished ones that are hurting the most. With Dorman coming up, followed by the 5A playoffs, the Vikings can’t keep shooting themselves in the foot if we want to achieve our goals. Penalties have stopped drives, extended them for the opponents, and even cost us a win this season.
