2A/3A Round 1 Preview

The regular season of High School Football season has flown right by and now it’s time for the playoffs. Let’s look at the matchups from round one in the 2A/3A region’s

Woodruff @ Broome Broome had a chance to win their region if they could’ve gotten a win against Chapman last week but as mentioned earlier they lost 32-6. But they still have had a strong season and have home playoff game in the first round of the playoffs as a two seed.

Woodruff finished off their regluar season with a win over the Union County Yellow Jackets by a final score of 42-23. The Wolverines have had a up and down season this year as they started off fast but  then had some struggles, which they haven’t fully gotten away from.

Despite that these teams know each other way from years of being in the same region and they have already played each other this year on September 23rd, where Broome picked up a 27-20 victory.

I think Woodruff has the talent to win this football game but they have been way to inconsistent for me and therefore, I see Broome winning this game but I do seeing it being another close one.

Emerald @ Chapman

The Chapman Panthers won their region last week when they defeated Broome by a final score of 32-6. That was a game that many including myself thought would come down to the wire but the Panthers stormed out of the gates jumping out to an 18-0 lead and never looked back.

The Panthers had their early season struggles but boy did they turn it around fast and have been rolling they are a team you don’t want to have to face right now. Unfortunately for Emerald, they finished as a four-seed in their region and they have to travel to face the red-hot Chapman Panthers.

I see the Chapman Panthers continuing their stellar play and I see them beating the Emerald Vikings fairly comfortably and moving on to the next round.

Keenan @ Landrum

The Landrum Cardinals were impressive in their region play this year losing only one game to a very good Abbeville team. They finished the regular season with a 6-4 record and 4-1 inside the region, which was good for second place and securing an opening-round home playoff game.

The Cardinals will be taking on another team that was 6-4 overall in the regular season as they will host a solid Kennan Raiders team. Kennan is a team that can put up points they are averaging around 38 points per game this season, so the Cardinals will have a challenge on the defensive side of the ball.

Landrum has overall had a strong season this year but I think this is a tough matchup to open up the playoffs. I expect the Cardinals to come out excited to be hosting a home playoff game and I see them having opportunities to win this one, but I am leaning toward going with my gut I think Keenan will make enough plays on offense to win this game.

Chesnee @ Strom Thurmond

It was the best season for the Chesnee Eagles but they did enough in region play to make the playoffs as a fourth seed. The Eagles are coming off a loss in their last game to Liberty 49-41. The Eagles looked like they were in complete control of the game up 35-14 at the half, but a disastrous second half where they were outscored 35-6 is a tough way to lose a football game.

Things don’t get any easier with their opening-round matchup as they will take on a one-seed Strom Thurmond who is on an 8-game win streak. They do not have a high-powered offense as they average just around 22 points per game on the season but defensively they are stingy as they allow just around 11 points per game.

Can Chesnee score enough to win this game? I would like to think so but I just don’t see them being able to do it enough to win this game I am leaning towards Strom Thurmond on winnning.
