The High School season is moving right along as we are already in week 3 of the high school football season. Lets take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A games in our local listening area.
Polk @ Landrum
The Landrum Cardinals really struggled last week against a solid St. Joes’ squad as the Cardinals fell 34-6. Cardinals will now look to bounce back against their across-the-border rivalry Polk High School.
Polk is coming into this game with a 1-2 record and has dropped their last two matchups where they were outscored 77-29, so they are also looking to snap out of their slide and get another win on the season.
The key for the Cardinals is to slow down Polk’s biggest playmaking threat and that is their wideout Antonio Simpson, who is averaging over 100 yards per game receiving. if the Cardinal’s defense can contain him that will slow down the production of Polk’s offense.
Offensively they simply just got to give Colton Link some room to run. If they open up some space for him he will find the endzone.
Broome @ Union
Broome is coming off a tough loss against Spartanburg where they kept themselves in the game but just couldn’t make enough plays to pull ahead.
Union suffered another lopsided loss falling to York by a final score of 38-14. Going into this game Union has been outscored 41-148 and things are not going to get any easier for them.
The key for Union is stopping the run of Broome which is a lot easier said than done but if they tackle poorly or give some space to KBB and McGill it will be a long day for them.
Right now I just don’t see the Yellowjackets having sucess slowing those guys down and I believe Broome wins this game.
Woodruff @ BHP
The Wolverines had a rough week last week as they took on a very good JL Mann team and lost 40-0 and they will have another tough challenge on the road on Friday Night as they will take on Belton-Honea Path.
BHP enters the game with a 2-0 record their latest win came last Friday Night as they beat Laurens by a final score of 49-21. BHP has outscored their opponents 92 to 49.
BHP is a team that has experience as they have a lot of seniors and juniors who play big roles for them, and with that experience, I think that gives them a slight advantage in this one. But I am curious to see if Woodruff can get their passing game going It was completely shut down last week. If they can get their passing game going in this game they will give themselves a chance to win it.
Laurens @ Chapman
It wasn’t the Chapman Panthers week last week as they got dominated by a Boiling Springs team that has been very impressive to start this season. After the come-from-behind win against Byrnes the week before the Panthers just couldn’t get anything going against the Bulldogs.
Chapman will look to bounce back at home against Laurens on Friday Night. Laurens is coming into the season 0-3 and has not been in any of their games as they have suffered several blowouts this season.
The outlook for this game I believe the Panthers will come out with a lot of intensity to let out some frustration from last week, I just simply feel Laurens is completely outmatched in this game and Chapman should win big.
RS Central @ Chesnee
The Chesnee Eagles bounced after a tough loss to Broome a few weeks ago by beating Walhalla last week by a final score of 20-10. The Eagles will look to make it two in a row by beating RS Central at home this Friday Night.
RS-Central comes into the game with a 1-1 record, they are also coming into this game after their bye week. In their last outing they lost to South Caldwell 50-16.
Looking at this matchup I know both teams are going to run the football and whoever is able to control the trenches should win this football game. I am leaning towards Chesnee being the team to make the more plays and win a close one at home.
