Boiling Springs

Week 4 Picks

We are really flying through the season. Week 4. We are staring down region play and teams are getting some of their final tune ups before we get there. It is two weeks away but will be here before we know it.  Let’s see what we got going on this week.

Northwestern at Gaffney-

Last year the Indians got off to a slow start with losses to South Pointe and Mallard Creek and a very tight win over Hammond.  But it was at this point last year were Gaffney really turned it on and beat a good Northwestern team.

This year Gaffney is off to a great start having already beat South Pointe and Mallard Creek with their lone loss coming in week zero to Crest.  Gaffney has all kinds of momentum heading into this week 4 matchup with the Trojans.

Northwestern is off to a good start too sitting at 2-1 on the season with their only loss also coming to a team from North Carolina, Providence Day.

This matchup is a really good, potential late round playoff kind of game. One of our measuring stick games of the week.

This Gaffney team though is really good and I think they shocked a lot of people last week with just how good that defense was against a top Mallard Creek team.  Plus this game is at the Reservation.

Pick:Gaffney

Chapman at Clinton-

Another one that could be a late round playoff game later this year. Over the last couple of years Clinton has made themselves into a real force in class 3A and are currently ranked 2nd in that classification. What coach Fountain has been able to do over there is outstanding rebuilding that program.

Chapman is looking right there with them a top 10 team who has notched a win this year over a top 10 5A team when they took down the Byrnes Rebels.  The Panthers have had an issue with consistency though this year.

Clinton is one of then toughest places to go and come back with a win. You talk about a home field advantage they definitely have one with those fans sitting right on top of you.  Where Chapman has lacked some consistency this year Clinton is the model of consistency.

Pick: Clinton

Spartanburg at Riverside-

The Vikings seemed to find some things that worked for them offensively last week. Mainly adding extra blockers, running Calvin Choice, and throwing it to Justin Rice. I said last week during the broadcast that the Vikings may have found their offense and now they have a couple of weeks to perfect it against Riverside and Mauldin before heading into region play.

There is no doubt the Vikings defense is top notch. They just have to get the offense right.

Riverside is better than they have been in years past.  The actually win some ball games now days.  Somebody told me earlier this week that the Riverside coach thinks that the Spartanburg offense struggles and that may be able to take advantage of that this week. I disagree.

Other Picks:

Boiling Springs will pick up another win over Greer.

Byrnes will roll over Wren.

Clover comes in and beats Dorman in a tight one.

Broome gets a running clock against Berea.

I like Chesnee to get it done against Woodruff in a knock down drag-out smash mouth football game.

I think Landrum has no trouble with SCA.

And

Union County gets their first win tonight over Laurens.

There you have it, my week 4 prognostications. Hope you take the time to go out and support these kids that work their butt off week in and week out.  Have fun at the games everybody! Can’t wait for next week.
