Boiling Springs

Week 7 Picks

What a great opening week of region play. Spartanburg and Byrnes lived up to the hype and Dorman, Boiling Springs came down to the wire like we thought it would.  3A went chalk and Greer started their quest for a region title off with a win.  This week promises to be another good week with som good games on tap.

Gaffney at Spartanburg

Spartanburg had a chance last week.  The Vikings again had the football late with a chance to score and win the game, but the Rebels had other plans, intercepting a pass and taking it back for a touchdown.

But we were treated to one heck of a game with two teams that were very evenly matched.  As I have said many times this week I don’t know if I have seen two defense that good on the same field in a long time, maybe ever.

Gaffney had their bye week last week. But were rolling before that having just beaten a good Fort Dorchester team down in Charleston.

This game has all the looks of another classic. The Indians have some great weapons on the offensive side of the ball.  On defense they have a lot of size. It is another typical Gaffney football team.

I think Spartanburg’s defense has an advantage in the speed category.  But they will have to match up with a good Gaffney offense. I think this could be a strength on strength kind of game.

The Spartanburg offense has to find some rhythm.  They also can’t make mistakes like last week because Gaffney will take advantage.

Chesnee at Abbeville-

The Eagles got a big emotional win on Monday knocking off the Landrum Cardinals.  Both teams and fanbases honored the students who passed away last Friday, and we all continue to remember the families in our thoughts and prayers as those students will be laid to rest this weekend.

Chesnee is now 1-0 in region play and have put themselves in a great position to earn a home playoff game.

Abbeville is always one of the top teams in 2A they have built a championship tradition and this season is no different. Abbeville expects to win the region and play for a state title.  The A-Bone offense, as they call it, is nearly unstoppable.  They have perfected the flex offense.

Chesnee is different this year. They are throwing a lot more and KJ Proctor is the reason why. He has a great arm and is beyond talented.  I just don’t think it will be enough tonight.

Pick: Abbeville

Other Picks:

Dorman rolls Mauldin

Greer  continues rolling with their offense and gets enough stops against Eastside to move to 2-0.

Chester has no trouble with Union County.

Landrum will bounce back and get a win over 96.

Woodruff will get their first region win over Emerald.

Byrnes beats Boiling Springs to move to 2-0 in region play.

The weeks just keep getting better and better as we get closer and closer to the playoffs. Games are becoming more and more important.  Can’t wait to see what tonight brings!
