Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field. Some good, some great, some not so good. I’ll try to break through what mattered, and what not to overreact to. So here’s 3 things from Week 9’s 24-17 loss to Boiling Springs.
1-Here’s the tiebreaker scenario from a Spartanburg Viking point of view. Obviously if the Vikings lose, we’ll be the 5th seed in the Region but due to what’s happening at the bottom of Region 1 and Region 3, (2 winless teams) the At Large big will come from Region 2. So, to have a 3 way tie between Boiling Springs, Dorman, and Spartanburg, Spartanburg has to win. If we do, then if Spartanburg is up by 18 or more by the end of the 3rd Q, we’ll be the 3 seed. If we’re up by 17 or less or down by 12 or less and win, the Vikings will be the 4 seed. Finally if Spartanburg is down by 13 or more but comes back to win, we’ll be the 5 seed.
2-Freshman Running Back Trenton Lynch is the best RB in the school. That’s not a knock on anyone else, but that young man runs differently. He’s a terrific north south runner and has a different gear.
3-The Vikings have to find ways to get their best players the football if we want to win. Spartanburg has so much talent but have struggled to get their top guys the ball. It’s not a talent issue and it’s certainly not a coaching issue, Hodge is the best coach in the state. But we’ll have to get creative going forward if we want to win.
