Week 10 2A/3A Preview

Its hard to believe that the final week of the high school football regular season is here. The year has flown by so fast once again as it just feels like it just got started. Week 10 is a huge week as region titles are on the line and playoffs spots and positioning. Let’s take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A games in our local listening area.

Broome @ Chapman

This is once again a highly anticipated matchup as the region title is on the line. Both teams have been very impressive all season long and both teams seem to be evenly matched.

Last year was the same scenario where the winner would win the region and it was expected to be a close game, but Chapman had other plays as they were in complete control from the kickoff and went on won the game 32-6. The Panthers will look to do the same on Friday Night while Broome will look to even up the score.

Broome is averaging around 45 points per game and only allowing 15, Chapman is averaging 42 points per game and allowing around 15. So when I say these teams are evenly match there you go, the production is pretty much the exact same on both sides of the ball.

For Chapman to me the key is stopping the run and make the Broome offense one dimensional, they were able to do that last year getting up big early and Broome could not get themselves back into the game.

For Broome I think they got to get off to a fast start and take the crowd out of the game and establish the run game with KBB and McGill. If they win the battle up front I think that will give them the edge to win this game.

Woodruff @ Union

Both these teams have not had great seasons but the last playoff spot in the region is up to grab. Currently Woodruff holds on to the final playoff spot as their lone region win was against Emerald a couple weeks ago. Union is currently winless inside the region.

This game to me is tough to pin down because both teams have been inconsistent and have struggled on both sides of the ball but especially defensively. Woodruff is averaging allowing 37 points per game and Union has allowed 49 points per game.

For either team to win this game they are going to need their defense to step up and make some plays. I do see this game going back and forth but it will simply be about who can string together some stops. Right now I have seen a little bit more consistency out of Woodruff and I am leaning on them to win the game.

Liberty @ Chesnee

Chesnee battled a strong 96 team last week and had their opportunities to win it and move to second place inside the region but fell a little short losing by a final score of 27-20.

Liberty defeated Landrum in a close one in a game that was played last Thursday, this was a big win for Liberty as they have solidified a spot in the playoffs.

This game will determine who the three seed in the region will be and I expect to be a hard fought game. Chesnee has been a tough matchup for everyone in this region so far with the exception of the Abbeville game. They have averaged 30 points per game in region play but have allowed 29 points per game so they will need their defense to pick up their play moving forward.

Liberty has averaged 32 points per game this season overall and inside region play they have averaged 28 points per game, so for Chesnee to win this game I think the defense is the key for them if they can hold liberty to around 21 points I see them winning this game.

Blacksburg @ Landrum

Both of these teams come into this game winless in region play, so the scenario is simple the winner gets the last playoff spot in the region the loser will start getting the basketball out.

Landrum played Liberty last Thursday night as mentioned before and they lost 40-33, Blacksburg was defeated by Abbeville 49-7. I know have been saying this but I have been surprised by Landrum’s struggles inside the region they came into region play, playing really good football.

I feel each week I have been saying I expect the Cardinals to bounce back and it has yet to happen, but this week I will say it once again! I think the Cardinals are the better team and should defeat Blacksburg at home to grab the final playoff spot.
