2A/3A Round Two Preview

Round one of the High School playoffs had some blowouts as expected but also had some really exciting games and in round two of the playoffs appears that there will be several exciting games, especially in the 2A/3A ranks. Let’s take a look at the games from that classification in our local listening area.

Broome @ Clinton

What a matchup that we have here! Broome had the most exciting game last week as it went back and forth against a solid Seneca team and KBB helped lead the way to a thrilling 42-35 win. But the matchup against Clinton is going to be another tough one and I see this game coming down to the wire.

Clinton opened up their first round of the playoffs against Palmetto last week and they cruised to a 42-18 victory. Like Broome Clinton is coming into this game with a 9-2 record and they are coming in with a lot of momentum as they won 5 in a row.

I see this game being and forth affair as I mentioned early for me If Broome is going to win this one they will need their defense to make some key plays, they will put up points we know that, but defensively they need to make the key stops and make few big plays in this one to move on to round 3.

Chester @ Chapman

Chapman was in complete control in their first-round matchup last week as expected as they rolled to a 45-0 win. The game was pretty much over after the first quarter and this allowed the Panthers to get their starters out and make sure they came out of the game at full strength.

Chester has had a really strong season as they are coming into this game at 9-2 and have won 6 out of their last 7 games. This would include their first-round matchup against Powdersville, who was the upper state champions last year as they defeated them 52-34.

Chester as I previewed them before for playing a team in our local listening area they haven’t played the toughest schedule their two biggest games in my opinion were against South Pointe and Clinton and they lost both their games. Overall, they still are a tough challenge but I feel like the Panthers are a step ahead of them and should win this game.

Chesnee @ Gray Collegiate

Chesnee has a tough draw this week against Gray Collegiate, and many know how I feel about schools that clearly have an advantage by being able to pull kids from anywhere like Gray Collegiate is able to do, but I guess it is what it is.

Chesnee defeated Batesburg-Leesville 21-10. The Eagles were down 7-0 and then were down 10-7 in the second half but they went on a 14-0 run to win the game and move on.

Gray Collegiate opened against Pelion and the final score was 62-0. The bottom line is Gray Collegiate is loaded and Chesnee I know will give it everything they got it’s a team that has shown resiliency all year but I just feel Gray Collegiate will be too much to handle.
