Big South Conference Grind

Every once in a while, I’m gonna put some thoughts together for Upstate fans to give everyone an inside view of being the Voice of the Spartans.  Check back here on our website and our App and I’ll have some thoughts for you.

This season – while the record isn’t what we want it to be, has been such a blast for me personally.  I love our station and what we do with our local teams and to have USC Upstate on our station has been such an awesome experience for us.  The local following and reaction we’ve received is more than I ever hoped for.

Upstate has had some of the most heartbreaking losses I’ve seen in a while. From teams shooting 66% in the 2nd half, to OT losses, the flu, it’s been one thing after another.  What I can tell you is that this team truly believes it’s going to turn it around.  I’ve seen lost confidence before…there’s a lot of confidence in our group.

Getting to work closely with Dave Dickerson has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.  Dave and I met and became friends years ago and getting to talk with him multiple times a week is a real joy.  Sometimes you just click with people and I have enjoyed working with Coach in our short time together.

Trae Broadnax has 6 straight double figure scoring games. This young man is a true leader and I believe will get us turned around sooner than later. The Big South is as deep as I’ve ever seen it in terms of quality teams and talent.  Every single night as a battle.  Nick Alves has 16, 16 and 15 points in his last 3 games.  He’s on a different level right now.

Finally – For those who don’t know me – College Baseball has always been a passion of mine.  We’re going to broadcast at least 40 games this upcoming season and we have something exciting happening opening day.  Weather permitting – we are going to have a special 2 hour Upstate Tailgate beginning at 1:00 live from Harley Park leading up to first pitch against Kentucky.  I hope everyone will come out that weekend to support the Spartans.

You can listen to Spartans Basketball and Baseball on Fox Sports Spartanburg 98.3FM, Spartanburgsportsradio.com or the Fox Sports Spartanburg App.
