Rolling Along With The Spartans

Every once in a while, I’m gonna put some thoughts together for Upstate fans to give everyone an inside view of being the Voice of the Spartans.  Check back here on our website and our App and I’ll have some thoughts for you.

While our record isn’t what we have hoped for, I have to tell you I’m having so much fun being at Upstate.  It’s not just about being around the team; the staff at Upstate has been a blast to work with. They’ve been very welcoming and appreciative of what we do at our radio station.  Matt is a phenomenal AD to work with.

Watching the guys put it all together against Radford was awesome.  This team plays the exact same way no matter the score. There’s some real potential with this group and hopefully what happened Saturday will lead to more wins as the season goes along.

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the guys in my first year at Upstate.  Justin Bailey and I have had some fun conversations about what teams like Longwood are trying to do against us.  It’s the little things, little conversations that I really enjoy.

If you know me (Ryan Clary) then you know that College Baseball has been a passion of mine since 1999.  I can’t tell you how excited I am for the start of Baseball season in less than 2 weeks.  I’m calling more baseball games in one season than ever before and with Upstate picked to win the conference, we’re gonna have a lot of fun.

Back to Basketball – Upstate hits the road again Wednesday night at Longwood – the longest drive in conference play.  I’m pumped to see their new arena.  We beat these guys last time by holding their top 2 scorers to 11 combined points.  We’ll have to be great on the defensive end again because they certainly will be.

Saturday we’re back home against the preseason favorite UNC Asheville.  We’d love to see the Hodge packed out.
