Chesnee Football Coach Clay Lewis Announces Retirement

Chesnee High School football coach Clay Lewis announced his immediate retirement on Wednesday morning in a press release.

“This time in Chesnee has meant a lot to me and my family…It was a great fit for me. The community, the school, all of it,” Lewis said in the release courtesy of Spartanburg County School District 2 in a Facebook post.

Lewis led the Eagles to a region championship in 2020, the first for the program in six seasons. The Lenoir, NC native steps down after five seasons coaching Chesnee, and over 35 years in coaching overall.

Chesnee High School went 5-5 in 2023 with a 2-3 region record, and fell in the first round of the 2A playoffs.
