From USC Upstate:
Fifteen Games, Five Power-Four Opponents, and Five National Postseason Participants Populate Men’s Basketball’s 2024-25 Schedule
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – As the first season of head coach Marty Richter’s tenure at USC Upstate nears, USC Upstate men’s basketball announces its 2024-25 non-conference slate, a 15-game schedule featuring five games against Power-Four programs and five games against teams who qualified for the NCAA postseason a year ago.
The Marty Richter-era of Spartan basketball begins Oct. 3 as Morgan Square Madness—the only outdoor basketball tip-off event in the state of South Carolina—returns to downtown Spartanburg. The event, planned to be even larger than last season’s event, is the first opportunity for the Spartan Army to see the 2024-25 men’s and women’s basketball programs.
Upstate’s 2024-25 season officially begins at the G.B. Hodge Center on Oct. 30 as the Spartans host an exhibition for the third consecutive season, this season hosting North Greenville. The regular season opens one week later as Upstate treks to The Triangle for a meeting with Atlantic Coast Conference foe and 2024 Final Four participant NC State on Nov. 4. The first week of the season wraps with two additional games, a home Nov. 6 date versus Piedmont and a Nov. 8 road trip to another ACC foe Virginia Tech.
Continuing a stretch of games versus ACC opponents—three of the team’s first four games—the Spartans travel to The Triad, matching up against Wake Forest on Nov. 13. Returning home, Upstate faces a two-game homestand as it welcomes UNC Wilmington and Southern Wesleyan on Nov. 15 and Nov. 19, respectively.
Playing in an in-season multi-team event (MTE) for the third straight season, Upstate heads to Johnson City, Tenn.—home of the 2025 Big South Men’s Basketball Championship—for a pair of games on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23, facing East Tennessee State and Queens in the event. Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Spartans head to Iowa for a meeting with the Big 10’s Hawkeyes on Nov. 26.
Coming out of the holiday break, the Spartans travel to Coastal Carolina on Nov. 30 to close out a string of four straight games away from the Hodge. Breaking up a larger stretch of six of seven games played away from home, Upstate hosts Brevard on Dec. 4 before heading to Western Carolina (Dec. 7) and Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina (Dec. 14).
Upstate closes its non-conference slate with a pair of games at the G.B. Hodge Center, hosting South Carolina State on Dec. 18 and a to-be-announced opponent on Dec. 21.
The 2024-25 Big South Conference schedule along with game times and broadcast designations will be released at a later
date.
