Boiling Springs

Picks Week 1

Week zero provided us with some good games, some blowouts and even a couple of surprises.  Missed three on the picks last week as I got the Woodruff, Landrum, and the Dorman games all wrong. Excited this week to see which teams will improve, and we also get our first look at the Gaffney Indians who didn’t play last week and will open up with JL Mann tonight.

Woodruff at Fountain Inn-

I was really impressed but Woodruff last week. We had a feeling they were going to be a good team this year and they proved us right by going down to Clinton and beating a really good Red Devil team.  Yes, I picked against the Wolverines last week but I gave Clinton the edge because they were at home.  It was a great game and Woodruff got a lot of folks now paying attention to them around the area. TJ Morris had a big night that earned him player of the week honors.  They will get win number two tonight against Fountain Inn, who also won last week. Woodruff offense will be too much.

Pick-Woodruff

Broome at Chesnee-

Both of these teams will be looking for their first win tonight as they take the field at Chesnee High School. These teams are very familiar with each other and have has some epic games in the past (we will talk about one of them tonight on Friday Night Tailgate Show).  Broome Coach Lynn Fleming once roamed the sidelines at Chesnee as the head coach of the Eagles, and since his departure for Broome, the Eagles have had three head football coaches and very limited success.

Both teams played games last week agains teams who are expected to make deep playoff runs in their classifications, I really don’t know how much we can take from either game.  Coach Fleming told me this week that he was pleased with how their line played at times but that they entire team needed to find more consistency if they expected to win games.  I think they will find that tonight against Chesnee and will even up their record.

Pick-Broome

Union vs Fairfield Central

The Yellow Jackets took one on the chin in week zero falling to a good Newberry team.  The Jackets were without their #1 quarterback and several players were injured in the game that will miss this week as well.

Union is in a rebuild. Rebuilds take time.  I saw way too many people last Friday night and Saturday morning that obviously think Coach Quinnon Isom graduated from Hogwarts or possessed some other magical ability to turn the program around in just a couple of months.  Have some common sense people.

Like the Yellow Jackets, Fairfield Central is not the same team we remember from the mid 1990s.  Much like Union population drop plays a big part in that.  Both teams look like they will be run heavy again this week but Union needs to find a way to complete more than one pass if they expect to win any games this year.

Pick-FFC

Other Picks:

Gaffney at JL Mann is probably the best game on the schedule and definitely has the two best running backs of any game in the state.  I look for a knockdown drag-out tonight between these two state title contenders.   Give me the Indians to get it done.

MVP will move to 2-0 with a win tonight at SSC

I think Landrum will top Berea

Give me Belton-Honea Path over Greer

Grayson over Dorman

Chapman will get their first win of the season over St. Joe’s

I will take Irmo over the Byrnes Road Rebels

And give me Boiling Springs to move to 2-0 with a win over Mauldin.

Have fun out there tonight everybody and makes sure to listen in to Hub-City Kickoff and The Friday Night Tailgate Show beginning at 3:00 on Fox Sports Spartanburg.
