The biggest game in the area this past Friday Night was Gaffney at Boiling Springs. Both teams came in undefeated and looking to put themselves in a good position in region play by winning the first region game of the year.
Gaffney pulled off a win in overtime 28-22 in a game that was filled with big plays on both sides of the ball, controversy, and some tense moments. Gaffney’s quarterback was ejected in the second half after an altercation on the Boiling Springs sideline, that also so a Boiling Springs assistant coach removed from the game.
One player in this game really stood out above the rest. Jamarcus Smith took the Indians on his back and helped lead Gaffney to a 1-0 region record. Smith carried the ball 7 times for 70 yards and a touchdown, that was the game winner in OT, 5 catches 119 yards including a 99 yard touchdown catch, and a 99 yard kick return for a touchdown.
That kind of performance in such a big game is enough to make Jamarcus Smith our electrifying player of the week. Smith is the second player this year to win the award from Gaffney. The Indians are now 4-0 on the season and will host the Spartanburg Vikings this week at The Reservation.
Congratulations to Gaffney on the big win and congratulations to Jamarcus Smith on being our week 4 player of the week.
