Another week of high school football is coming fast. However, we can see games moved around with another tropical storm supposed to affect the area this week, so hopefully that doesn’t happen and we can enjoy our football on Friday night. Let’s take a look at the matchups in the 2A/3A games in our local listening area.
Blacksburg @ Broome
Broome didn’t have their best stuff last week as they took on Powdersville they were never really into the game as they allowed big plays for Powdersville for most of the night. They would go on to lose 40-21 so in their final non-region game of the year they are looking to bounce back.
Blacksburg is coming off a two-game losing streak, a couple of weeks ago they had that shocking loss to Union up 20+ points with a few minutes left and somehow found a way to lose. Then last week they got smashed by Central last week 44-14.
Broome was off their game last week and I do not expect that to be the case this week I see them getting the win at home and bouncing back before they enter region play. I look for their offense to get a balanced attack going and for their defense to come up with some stops.
Chapman @ BHP
The Chapman Panthers are on the road this week and they are coming off a loss where their defense was stout only giving up 14 pts but offensively they continued their struggle as they only came away with 7 pts. Things do not get easier for the Panthers this week as they are on the road once again as they take on BHP.
BHP is coming into the game with a 4-1 record their only blemish was a loss to the Westside Rebels…… I mean the Rams, who are loaded. BHP came away with an easy victory last week against Palmetto 37-14. BHP is capable of putting big numbers on the board offensively and defensively they are stingy
For Chapman to win this game they will have to find a way to get some offense going consistently, so far running the ball Chapman can do, but they will need bigger plays in their passing game if they can’t this will be a long night for the Panthers.
Landrum @ Blue Ridge
Landrum has been on a roll as of late as they had another lopsided victory last week against West Oak winning 48-0. The Cardinals will look to ruin the Blue Ridge Tigers’ homecoming and pick up their 5th straight victory of the year.
Blue Ridge began region play last week against Pickens and had a lead in the half but Pickens was able to rally and picked up the win.
The big key for Landrum is stopping the run, Blue Ridge has a talented back and a few big offensive linemen. If they force more throws that will help them put together some stops and allow their offense to work.
Union @ Clinton
After the thrilling win that Union had against Blacksburg the week before they could not continue the momentum they had coming into their game last week against Chester. The Cyclones went into this game struggling on offense but they had no struggles in this one as they won big 54-12
Now the Yellow Jackets will be on the road for another tough matchup against a strong Clinton squad, Clinton just had their three-game losing streak snapped against a loaded Daniel team a week ago.
Union will have their hands full defensively if they can’t string together several stops, which has been a struggle for them, but if they can’t do it, it will be another long night for the Yellow Jackets.
Woodruff @ Wren
This will be one of the better matchups of the week as both teams are playing great football coming into the matchup. Woodruff improved to 5-0 this past week defeating Chesnee 45-28. Chesnee gave them a good fight but by the end Woodruff was able to pull away and get the victory.
Wren is coming into this game with a 3-1 record and they did lose last week but to a very good TL Hanna team 36-29. Wren on the season has averaged 38 points per game and only allows 13 points per game so they are strong on both sides of the football this will be a test for sure for Woodruff.
I think both teams are coming into this game as mentioned playing well, I think for Woodruff this is a game where they will need their defense to step up big maybe force a turnover or two. If Woodruff’s defense is on its game I see them winning, if not I think Wren will win in a close one.
