Week 7 2A/3A Preview

Due to Hurricane Helena, we haven’t gotten to experience a normal Friday night of High School football but the good news is that will finally change on Friday night as High School Football is back! Let’s take a look at the 2A/3A games in our local listening area.

MVP @ Chapman

MVP has not played a game since September 20th when they won a game against Asheville School 42-21. They were slated to play Union last week but the game was postponed, so you know they are chopping at the bit to get started once again.

Chapman’s previous game was also on September 2oth where they struggled to get anything going offensively and lost in a defensive struggle 14-7.

Chapman has really struggled to get anything going offensively all year, we know they are young and going through some growing pains, MVP on the other hand is clicking on all cylinders and I see them winning big.

Chesnee @ Clinton

The Chesnee Eagles’ last game was against Woodruff where they battled them for the majority of the game but over the course of the matchup Woodruff just wore them out and pulled away late.

Clinton’s last matchup was against a loaded Daniel squad and they easily defeated 37-12 to fall to 3-2, but those two losses are to very good football teams so make no mistake about it Clinton is once again a strong team, and will be a tough Marchup for the Eagles.

One thing I have admired about Chesnee over the last several years is they are a tough group and will show up and compete each night, but I do see this one going like the Woodruff game where they hang around but in the end, I see Clinton pulling away and winning this one.

Landrum @ Blacksburg

The Landrum Cardinals are coming into this game with a four-game win streak, their latest win was against West Oak as the Cardinals shut them out 48-0. Now the Cardinals will play in their first region game against Blacksburg on Friday night, so you know the Cardinals will want to start region play with a win.

Blacksburg is coming into this game with a 2-3 record and in their last game they were involved in a shootout against Broome where they fell short 48-41. Blacksburg is currently on a three-game losing streak which started in a shocking loss against Union a few weeks back, where they were up big late but a miracle run by Union stole the game and so far the Wildcasts have not been able to bounce back.

Landrum was rolling before Hurricane Helena rolled in and stopped the season for a few weeks, but I don’t see the layoff stopping their momentum and I think the Cardinals will put up a big number against them and move to 1-0 inside region play.

Union @ Broome

Broome as already mentioned in their last game out they won in a shootout against Blacksburg, so on one hand they had to feel good with their offensive production putting up 48 points but on the other hand giving up 41 is not ideal so they will look to clean some things up defensively;.

Union last game out they simply got destroyed playing Chester 54-12 so they failed to captilized on the momentum they had in their previous game with a monster comeback win.

I think Broome has a tendency to struggle on defense which might allow Union to get something going offensively this week, but Union also struggles defensively and Broome’s offense I believe is in much better form so I do see Broome giving up a some points but I see them scoring plenty as well to get the win.
