Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field. Some good, some great, some not so good. I’ll try to break through what mattered, and what not to overreact to. So here’s 3 things from Week 7’s 23-7 win over Dorman.
1- 4 in a row! It’s always great to beat Dorman and the Viking Defense led the charge to a 23-7 win over the Cavs. While Dorman’s offense has struggled this year, late in the 3rd Quarter, it was a 3 point game and Dorman had the ball inside the Viking 35 yard line. The defense didn’t allow a first down after this and forced a missed FG. Time and time again this season, the Viking Defense steps up when it has to. The Vikings also forced 2 more INTs…one from Jarius Mosey and another from Elijah Roseburgh…leading to 10 points off those picks.
2-Trenton Lynch is healthy and it’s showing. The Sophomore TB had 18 carries for 122 yards against an extremely good front 7 of Dorman. On multiple plays, there was a defender in the backfield and Lynch made him miss and got positive yards on the play. He has become the go to player on offense for the Vikings once again. On the season, Lynch has 68 carries for 478 yards and 5 TDs
3-WR Justin Rice went out on the 2nd play of the game and throughout the first half, the question was who would be the go to receiver down the stretch. Answer – SR WR Zy Williams Bond who had 6 catches for 63 yards. But it wasn’t just the stats, it was a diving 18 yard catch on 2nd and 17…it was a huge 3rd down conversion where Burke looked for Williams Bond and they both delivered. When Spartanburg needed a big play through the air, Zy delivered. Huge shoutout to Calvin Edwards Choice who once again made a monster play on the early TD. He needs to have the ball in his hands this week as much as possible.
