It was good to see all of our local teams that were scheduled to play Friday night back on the field. The previous two weeks were rough, and not having football games made it a little rougher.
It was a weird Friday night of games and some teams looked a little rusty early. One team that may have benefitted from the time off was the Union County Yellow Jackets. The Jackets won their first region game since October of 2021 on Friday with a 28-22 overtime victory over the Broome Centurions.
One of the reasons the Jackets came out victorious on Friday was the big game by running back Josh Rice-Brandon. Rice-Brandon carried the ball 22 times and had 225 yards with 1 touchdown, on the offensive side, while tallying 4 tackles on defense. Because of his effort the Jackets got the win and Josh Rice-Brandon is our Electrifying Player of the Week for week 7.
The Jackets are now 2-4 overall and 1-0 in region play and will host the Chapman Panthers (1-6, 0-1) Friday night at Union County Stadium. This game will serve as homecoming for the Jackets with the Union County Fair in town.
Congratulations to the Jackets on the win and Congratulations to Josh Rice-Brandon our Electrifying Player of the Week for week 7 of the season.
Thanks to Baylie Black for the player picture!
