It was supposed to be the final week of the regular season but Hurricane Helena pushed back the regular season one more week. So with just two more games teams are fighting for a playoff spot or fighting for playoff position so there is still plenty of important football left. Let’s look at the matchups from the 2A/3A games in our local listening area.
Chapman @ Broome
The Chapman Panthers are coming off a lopsided loss against a very good Woodruff team last week the final score was 44-10, they continue to struggle mightily on offense and this game was no different. They will look to get themselves going Thursday night game against Broome
Broome had the tough match-up out of their bye week against MVP last Friday night and they suffered their second loss in a row falling 49-20. They are going to look to snap the losing streak and get back on the winning track.
My overall feeling is this game should be a tight one, I do feel that the Broome Centurions are a little bit better offensively and I think they will do enough to win this game. I feel if Chapman’s defense can get some turnovers and give the Panthers a short field to work with that could help them put some points on the board.
Chesnee @ Landrum
The Chesnee Eagles played last week against Cresent and for most of the first half and the early minutes of the third quarter they were in control of the game up 10-0, but Crescent flipped the script and scored 21 unanswered points to win it. So Chesnee is looking to right the ship in this big region matchup against Landrum.
The Landrum Cardinals suffered another loss in Region play to fall to 1-2 inside the region last week they played Liberty and the game got away from the Cardinals as they fell 42-24. The Cardinals have had a trend over the past few years where they have fared well in non-region schedule but struggled in region play. They did start off with a win in region this year but now have dropped the last two.
This is an important game for both teams, right now I am leaning towards Landrum to get the win but I look for this game to be tight, I just think with Landrum’s ability to pass the ball they can make a few more explosive plays that I see being the difference.
Union @ Woodruff
Union County got a though matchup this week facing a Woodruff whose only loss is to MVP this season. Union has really struggled defensively and Woodruff’s offense is lethal, so they will have to step it up to give themselves a shot in this game.
Woodruff took care of business last week as mentioned earlier as they defeated Chapman last week 44-10, so they will look to continue to roll and pick up another region win.
The bottom line is Woodruff is the superior team and they should roll in this game I look for them to win by a comfortable margin this Friday Night. They simply just have too many playmakers for Union to have to worry about.
